Pie is a book filled with mystery, adventure, and of course food. If you like these types of books, then Pie is the book for you. Pie is about an amazing woman named Polly Portman who makes pies and has won 13 Blueberry awards for her outstanding pies. Unfortunately, she passes away and leaves her famous recipes to her CAT, Lardo, and leaves Lardo with her niece ,Alice Anderson. Everyone in the town is dying to find out her amazing pie crust recipe. I loved Pie , although it was really sad, but I still loved it because I love adventures, mystery and food. If I were the author, I would not change a thing about the book because I loved every part of Pie. If I were Alice, I would have solved the problem the same way she did. If I could choose a word to describe this book, I would choose delicious because I think if I tried one of Polly’s pies I would LOVE it. So, if you want to find out what lies ahead, then click on the link above and it will take you to www.amazon.com.  You can buy the book, and there you have it: it’s yours!! And if you do read Pie, I bet you you’ll love it just like me! Oh, and one more thing, every time you start a new chapter, there is a real pie recipe!!

If you like total switch-ups, Masterpiece is a book for you. When a beetle named Marvin draws a picture with the ink, a boy named James gets for his birthday, James’s parents think that he did it all. James is not very good at drawing and he is expected to do it again. Will Marvin and James be able to make beautiful drawings without getting caught??? Get ready for a book full of adventure and mystery!!! I loved this book because it could never happen but imagining it made amazing thoughts in my head. If I were the author, I would make the part of James breaking his arm clearer because that part for me was a little confusing. If I were Marvin, I would never tell Mama that I was friends with a human so that she would not be so strict. My ONE JUICY WORD would be secretive because James keeps it all a secret. So, if you seem interested in Masterpiece, try to buy it on Amazon NOW!!! P.S Masterpiece is one of the best books ever.

Introduction to Q Book Review Blog

Do you ever have a hard time helping a student choose a great book to read? My 4th grade students ask me all the time for recommendations but the students don’t always love what I suggest.  Over the years I have done a variety of book review projects but I haven't found a way to consolidate everything into a streamline resource which the students can use independently to help them make a decision on a book to read. So, fast forward to this blog: Q Book Review! Q Book Review is a student-driven blog of book reviews.

Not only was I thrilled to finally find a way to help my students find books in the library and become even more excited about reading and writing, I was also going to blog with my class which had been something I had been interested in doing for some time.  First, the students read books of their choice and created a Paper Blog reviewing their book of choice which was displayed around the classroom.  The Paper Blog included pertinent information about the book, as well as a very short summary.  The students were also encouraged to write comments (only friendly and positive) for books they had previously read or wanted to read in the future.  Surprisingly, many students wanted to create additional Paper Blogs for books they read in the past, even though this required them to do this during their free time or at home.

Now, that the students had become familiar with Paper Blogging, it was time to introduce the digital blog.  We discussed what information they enjoyed reading about on the Paper Blog and what type of information they might want to read about a book on our digital blog.  Together, we created a two part blog post: Part 1 – A basic book review and Part 2 – a creative activity showcasing their chosen book.  The students became even more interested to see that their feedback was actually being incorporated into the blog requirements.   Each child created a blog post about a book that they enjoyed and believed other children (and adults) might enjoy reading.  We discussed the importance of who could read their posts (their audience), and when they realized that anyone with access to the internet could read their posts including President Obama, the authors of their chosen book, or any child around the world!!!!

After much editing and revising, some sweat and tears, copious amounts of creativity and laughter, please enjoy the blog posts written by my fourth grade students.  At the moment, we are only sharing Part 1 (book review) and we will be adding Part 2 (creative activity) at a later date. We would love your comments but ask you to be respectful and appropriate.

Prepare to read the amazing, and wonderful Maggie and Oliver or a Bone of One’s Own by Valerie Hobbs. This adventure is about young ten year old orphan, Maggie, who works for Madame Dinglebush and orphaned dog, Oliver, who’s owner, Bertie, passes away and gets taken somewhere far away. Oliver is in search of Bertie and Maggie got kicked out by madame because she spoke to The Duchess of Landsaway when she was not suppose to. So now they are both starving and homeless. There is a lesson in this book and that is that a miracle can happen when something unexpectedly bad happens.  At the beginning I was very sad but when I was in the middle I started to cheer up , then when I was almost the end I said “ Oh No!” But when I got to the very end I was supper happy and I also was a tiny bit sad and that was only because I didn’t want it to end. If I could change one part I would make Bertie The Duchess of Landsaway’s sister, so it would be so much more interesting. There is a word I would choose to describe this book and it is thrive because i don’t know how they thrived to survived with no food for so long. I loved Maggie and Oliver because there had a really exciting ending and if you want to know the ending than just  BUY THE BOOK by clicking on the amazon link above and purchasing it and BOOM it's yours!! Then, Hopefully you will read it and love it too (just like me)!!!

If you love dogs like I do, you should read  Tales From A Not –So Perfect Pet Sitter. This book is about a girl named Nikki Maxwell and her two friends, Chloe and Zoey.  One day Nikki and another one of her friends, Brandon, go and get a cupcake. They find one big Golden Retriever and her seven puppies outside the dog  store. The dog store doesn’t have space for them so Nikki and her friends take care of them until the dog store has space and Nikki has trouble taking care of the dogs. I wouldn’t want to change anything in this book because it all makes sense. And if I where Nikki Maxwell I would have told my parents about everything that happened.  I would describe this book in one word and  it would be FANTASTIC because it has a problem that is solved in a funny way. Remember,  if you like  dogs you should really read Tales From A Not-So Perfect Pet Sitter!

:           Double Fudge is about a little boy who creates an obsession  with money.  I loved this book because when your reading this book you feel like you are there.  But beware, it has so much little brother drama and odd things! The little brother is going crazy about money; he won’t stop talking about money, money and, money all the time. I would change the part when the little brother (Fudge) gets a new best friend and instead Peter ( the big brother) gets a best friend because something happened between him and his best friend. If I were Peter I just would tell Fudge that he couldn’t buy New York instead of telling him that the Dutch bought it for only Twenty-Four dollars. One juicy word that I would describe this book is BREATHE TAKING because you never want to stop reading this book!!! Read Double Fudge and this book will change your life; I promise!

But when the niece Megan takes the Thumbtop to meet her stepmother in Cleveland things get this operation gets a little, actually a lot more complicated. I REALLY liked this book because it has lots of comedy, action, and crazy ideas. There is nothing I would change because the plot is PERFECT for me. One word to describe this book is CRAZY because they do CRAZY thing to get the Thumbtop. So if you like comedy action and CRAZINESS read MouseNet .

Liam's review on Peak

# of pages: 256
# AR points: 9                                     RL: 5.0

If you want to read a fabulous and exciting book filled with detail, adventure, and of course mountaineering, Peak is the book for you. The book is about a boy who has to climb Mt. Everest before he turns 13 years old so his dad’s company does well. I liked the book because I love a book filled with detail and adventure just like Peak. I also love how the book had a twist and how the book made you feel like you were on Mt. Everest. Even though the book was excellent, if I was the author, I would have had Peak’s dad help him escape from The Juvenile Detention Center and have the police look for them as they climbed Everest. If I was Peak, I would have solved the problem by climbing the mountain by myself with the characters that didn’t want me to leave the mountain. One good word for Peak is detailed because the book describes everything in amazing detail. READ Peak and you will feel like you are climbing MT. EVEREST!

Here is the link to buy Cold Tom read the review first.

Cold Tom is a very good book, because it is so smooth and very adventurous. The book has demons and vampires but do not worry it is not as scary as it sounds. The vampire boy Tom runs away from his tribe and into the demon world. So, if you want to know what happens next, then READ THE BOOK NOW!!!. I loved the book and I did because of how balanced it was because there is a little of everything. I would change nothing about it; that’s how good it is. If I were in the book, I would just run away forever because I am not as clever. One word to describe the book is balanced because everything is perfect again there is a little bit of everything. So, if you like the sound of this great story, then Cold Tom is for you.

Pie is an amazing book that will blow your mind. I love Pie so much because the book has so much detail you feel like the book is alive. Although there is a really sad moment in the book everyone should still read it because it an extraordinary book. I would change the part where Alice finds her friend in Polly’s apartment after the tragedy because I feel it is sort of rude how Alice’s friend goes into Alice’s aunts apartment when he didn’t get permission. If I were Polly, I would have solved the problem by just telling Alice the recipe so nothing bad happens. If I could pick a juicy word, it would be breathtaking. Once you read Pie, you will never think of pies the same way because there is a amazing story with mystery, comedy, and sadness all about a pie crust recipe.

Peak is a wonderful book for anyone who likes adventure. My friend is reviewing the same book, so don’t forget to check out his blog. The book is named after Peak, the main character. Peak is climbing Mt Everest because he had two choices, he goes to juvenile detention or live with his long lost father. I liked the book because it has adventure. If I were the author, I would not change anything about the book. If I were Peak, I would have probably not made the summit because I am not a very good climber. The one juicy word is danger because there are snow storms and you can freeze to death. So, read Peak because you will feel like you are in the book climbing with them.
