The Marvels is a mysterious, plot twisting, and shocking book all at the same time. From the heartbreaking shipwreck of 1766 to the burning of the Royal Theater in 1900, this book, no matter what genre you’re into, is the book for you. I would say the book is a very unique book, but every book has something to correct, even the Lord of the Rings. Brian Selznick has a passion for using big words, and that’s not bad. The problem is that he uses words that some people don’t understand. Words like rubbish, and plaque are very unfamiliar to other people. But overall, the book is really amazing. If I were Brian Selznick, I would change the part where Joseph runs away from St. Anthony’s because in my opinion, it’s a pretty stupid idea to run away from your school just because you want to find your best friend, Blink, who left the school. I would certainly not do that! If I were Joseph in the Marvels, I would solve the mystery of the Marvels family similar to how Joseph did, but I would solve it in a less adventurous way, because I find stealing the tapes, and going all the way to the way to the Royal Theater just tiring. What I would do is I would slowly make uncle Albert gain my trust, and then I would ask him all about the Marvels. What Joseph did in the book was he annoyed uncle Albert to the point that uncle Albert just didn’t trust Joseph. If I could pick one juicy word to describe the Marvels, it would be page-turning. Brian Selznick has this ability to always make the reader turn the page. I have only read the Marvels, but I know I’ll be reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret and Wonder Struck very soon! So whatever book you’re going to read next, I just hope you consider reading The Marvels. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
